Service Plan
An individual capability bundled inside a Microsoft 365 licence — Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
A service plan in Microsoft 365 licensing is an individual capability bundled inside a plan SKU. For example, Microsoft 365 E3 bundles dozens of service plans — Exchange Online (Plan 2), SharePoint (Plan 2), Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise, Microsoft Entra ID P1, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Purview, and many more. Each service plan can be enabled or disabled per user in the admin center, letting you assign the licence but turn off specific services for users who don't need them (e.g., a kiosk user without Exchange). Each service plan has a stable name and GUID used in PowerShell and Graph for programmatic licensing. Understanding the service plans inside a SKU is essential for nuanced licensing decisions.
