SCIM
System for Cross-domain Identity Management — an open standard for automating user lifecycle across systems.
System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) is an open standard for automating user provisioning and deprovisioning across identity systems and SaaS apps. Microsoft Entra ID supports SCIM both outbound (Entra → SaaS apps like Salesforce, ServiceNow, Slack, GitHub) and inbound (HR systems → Entra for joiner-mover-leaver automation). When a user is created, updated, or disabled in the source system, SCIM propagates the change to every connected target within a sync cycle (typically 40 minutes). The foundation of automated identity lifecycle in modern Microsoft 365 deployments — replaces manual app-by-app provisioning with consistent automation.
