On-Premises Data Gateway
A small Windows service that lets Power Platform and Power BI access on-premises data sources securely.
The On-Premises Data Gateway is a small Windows service installed on a server in your network that lets Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Analysis Services access on-premises data sources — SQL Server, Oracle, file shares, on-prem APIs — without exposing those sources to the public internet. The gateway maintains outbound encrypted connections to Microsoft's cloud; cloud services queue requests; the gateway pulls and executes them; results flow back. Two modes: standard (multi-user, recommended) and personal (single-user, Power BI only). Multiple gateways can form a cluster for resilience and load balancing.
