Office Deployment Tool
A Microsoft command-line tool for downloading and installing Microsoft 365 Apps with fine-grained control.
The Office Deployment Tool (ODT) is a Microsoft command-line tool for downloading and installing Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise with fine-grained control. Driven by an XML configuration file, ODT can specify products, languages, update channel, architecture (32 vs 64 bit), exclusions of specific apps, shared computer activation, and proxy settings. Used for deployment automation — Intune Win32 deployments, Configuration Manager packages, custom IT installers — when the default click-to-run installer doesn't offer enough control. The companion Office Customization Tool (config.office.com) generates the XML configuration through a GUI. For Intune-managed estates, the built-in Microsoft 365 Apps deployment type in Intune handles most scenarios without ODT directly.
