Multi-Geo
A Microsoft 365 capability that stores user data in multiple geographic regions per user within a single tenant.
Multi-Geo Capabilities lets a single Microsoft 365 tenant store user data — Exchange mailboxes, OneDrive accounts, SharePoint sites — in multiple geographic regions per user. Each user has a Preferred Data Location (PDL) attribute that determines where their mailbox and OneDrive live, with cross-geo collaboration, search, and identity all unified. Useful for multinational tenants needing per-country data residency without splitting into multiple tenants. Configured per user, typically synced from on-prem AD via Entra Connect. Sold as a per-user add-on, typically on top of E3 / E5. Doesn't extend to all workloads — Entra ID, Yammer, Power BI, Defender, Purview remain tenant-region only.
