Frontline Worker
Microsoft's term for deskless, shift-based workers — retail, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing — with specific Microsoft 365 plans.
A frontline worker in Microsoft's framing is a deskless, shift-based employee — retail associate, healthcare staff, hospitality worker, manufacturing operator, field service technician — who needs lighter Microsoft 365 capabilities than a knowledge worker. Microsoft offers Microsoft 365 F1 and F3 plans at lower per-user prices, optimised for these users: web and mobile Office, frontline-tailored Teams experiences, Walkie Talkie, Shifts, Tasks by Planner, Approvals, Praise. Devices are often shared (kiosk Android, dedicated tablets). The frontline plans cover the largest user populations in many industries at a fraction of knowledge-worker plan costs.
