Azure Information Protection
The former name for Microsoft Purview's sensitivity labelling and information protection capabilities.
Azure Information Protection (AIP) is the former name for Microsoft's information protection capabilities — sensitivity labels, encryption (Rights Management), classification, and tracking. The product was renamed and reorganised as part of Microsoft Purview in 2022. Modern sensitivity labelling is configured in the Purview portal and applied via Office apps, the AIP unified labelling client (still used in some scenarios), and policy-driven auto-labelling. The legacy AIP classic client was retired in 2022; the unified labelling experience is now built into Office. You'll still see "AIP" branding in older docs, in some service principal names, and in certain DNS / endpoint URLs.
